Top Job Search Marketing Strategies to Get You Noticed!

Let’s face it, in today’s economy it’s not enough to have a dynamite resume. In order to be truly competitive in the current job market, it is absolutely essential to stand out from the crowd.

So what are some of the best strategies for doing this?

Dale Carnegie, the well known author of How to Win Friends and Influence People said, “To be interesting to other people, you have to be interested in them first.” This means that every attempt you make to connect with a potential resource who might have a job lead for you, should be focused on them rather than on you.

In what way can hiring you enhance their success? What is in it for them? Here’s an idea.

  • Conduct research on the CEO or VP of a company you wish to work for and find out something that the company is doing.
  • Offer some suggestions to break into a new market; or you could recommend some strategies that can help their business.

A little too bold for your style?

  • Try sending your resume via multiple methods. Call the HR department of the firm that has a job available and get their fax number.
  • Send your resume via the regular route online, but also send it via fax. For added measure, send it via “snail mail” per the US postal service as well.
  • In your cover letter, mention that you sent the information by email, but wanted to stand out from the crowd because you feel you have skills that make you uniquely qualified for the role.

Here is another marketing method. When you contact colleagues and potential associates via LinkedIn or face-to-face at networking functions, think about what you might be able to offer them in exchange for their help.

Is it possible that you might know someone that could be a potential lead for them in business or even personally? Anything you can think of to be of value to them will make an impression. Especially when you go out of your way to provide them with the information.

Do this with self confidence and you are sure to make a lasting impression.
