Duties of a Dental Hygienist
- Assists the dentist during general dental procedures
- Delivers direct patient care to patients, including prophylaxis and scaling, x-rays, and application of sealants and fluoride
- Maintain patient dental charts, including graphical charting, periodontal charting, and proper documentation
- Demonstrates knowledge and usage of dental equipment, terminology, instruments, tray setups, and instrument sharpening.
- Educate parents and patients in oral hygiene instruction
- Assesses dental condition and needs of patients and review medical history
- Provides nutritional counseling and self-care programs to prevent dental decay and disease
- Stock required supplies and maintain equipment
