Are Recruiters Laughing at Your Resume Writing Skills?

Having a laughable resume is no laughing matter. The sad truth is that it is highly unlikely you will ever find out about your bad resume writing.  Instead, your resume will most likely go directly into the ‘no’ pile after it has given a good chuckle to the recruiter who reads it.  You, on the other hand, will not be so jolly when you scratch your head and wonder why no one ever gets back to you.

Here are a few comments made by well meaning job applicants who didn’t realize they had made bad resume blunders. We hope this inspires you to hire a professional writer or at the very least, make sure to get 2-3 people to proofread your resume.  Here goes:

1, I pay pay very close attention to detail.

You do? You could have fooled me.

2. Type 875 WPM with a high degree of accuracy.

That is quite a high degree of accuracy, indeed!

3. I am the bet candidate for the job.

Are you sure you want to bet on that?

4.  Able to ignore others when working with them.

Is this a good thing?

5. Helpless when providing administrative support.

How true!

All kidding aside, how you present yourself to potential employers is critical.  Silly resume mistakes, while extremely funny, do not get you the interview, let alone an offer.  To be truly competitive, your resume must be an accurate and professional reflection of your work history, accomplishments, and core strengths.

If writing resumes is not your thing, it might be best to get some resume help.  After all, what is more valuable than getting the job that could help you take your career to the next level? If you have been going it alone and find you are not moving forward in your career, there is no shame in finding a resource to provide you with a resume that will get you results.

  1. Your blog and article which is provided by your site is really amazing. Great job. I really enjoyed reading this article. Thanks for sharing this with me!

  2. As an interviewer, I always saw attempts at humor as a nervousness, and then questioned the applicants professionalism. And therein lies a hint, always take the resume and interview seriously
